Tour of Flanders

The Tour of Flanders was first organized in 1913. The major driving force at the first editions was Charles Van Wijnendaele, cofounder of the newspaper Sportwereld . Just like the Tour de France with l'Equipe and the Giro with La Gazzetta dello Sport, there was a newspaper at the base of this great race.

Especially after World War II, the Tour of Flanders became reference in the international competition. Since 2005, The Tour of Flanders is part of the Pro Tour . From 2011 on, The Tour is part of the UCI World Tour.

Since 1998, the Tour starts in Bruges. From 1973 till 2011 its arrival was in Meerbeke , with the famous Wall of Geraardsbergen a few kilometers before the finish.

Since 2012, the arrival lies in Oudenaarde, where the Old Kwaremont and the Paterberg have to be climbed three times in full final.

The route is know for its famous climbs and cobblestone strips, which can vary from year to year.
