This is a very steep climb on relatively bad road surface but nevertheless very rewarding on a quiet forest road closed to traffic. In winter it is part of a cross country ski route (Le Noir du Divonne) and there is still snow on it until late spring. It can be accessed from Divonne or Gex and Vesancy. The start is officially signposted just past Le Fleutron campsite beyond Villard above Divonne. From there it is a brutal 11% average for several kilometres until the road levels out at the end. From the Gex-Vesancy side it is not as steep but longer with some descent in the middle. Once at the top you can continue on to Le Vattay and descend the Faucille!

Afgelopen week in de vakantie deze Col beklommen en gedaald. Dit laatste gedaan in de richting Vacancy, met een paar honderd meter omhoog van 18 - 23% op mij navigatie. In de afdaling daarna stukken van 14%. Dit, in combinatie met zeer slecht en vies wegdek, was zeer gevaarlijk. De daling vanaf de Col de Faucille is veiliger en niet minder mooi. De uitzichten, met name in het tweede gedeelte van de klim, en het klimmen in tot de wolken was geweldig. Zeer mooie bochten en vergezichten over de Alpen en meer van Genève. Het was er heel rustig en soms oorverdovend stil. Je hoort alleen jezelf en de vogels in het bos. Zwaar, maar 's avonds onder het genot van een goed wijn resten de sterke verhalen en mooie herinneringen.
