PUY-DE-DÔME CLOSED FROM JULY 2010 TILL 2012! Because of works to the panoramic posts on the Puy-de-Dôme volcano, the road will be closed for cars and cyclists until 2012. From then on, it will be possible to climb the Puy-de-Dôme under the same conditions as before the start of the works in 2010. However, for security reasons, the descent will obligatory need to be made train. In the meantime, it will still be possible to visit the top walking, parking your car on the Col de Ceyssat (follow RD 68 3 km direction Ceyssat) and their will also be a navette service from the foot of the site to the chemin des Muletiers. May, June, September, Octobre, weekends and holidays: Up from 12h30 till 17h Last descent : 20h Frequency : every 15 minutes July and August every day : Up from 10h till 17h Last descent : 20 h Frequency : every 15 minutes Close to the Massif Central, the Puy de Dome is in fact a volcano, one of the youngest volcanic feature in the province. The most recent eruption at Puy de Dome was about 5,760 B.C. The Puy de Dôme is one of the mythical cols of the Tour de France. However, due to difficulties to reach the top with a Tour de France circus and risks because of huge crowds, the Puy de Dôme is no longer part of the French tour.address
