The col de la Croix de Fer links the Maurienne en Savoie valley to those of Romanche en Isère. It's a very long and irregular col. When you reach the crossroad with the Glandon, you can make a small detour of 1,5 km to reach the top of the Croix the Fer and to enjoy the view.

Perhaps my favourite climb, along with Col du Galibier. The mid-section where you descend for the kilometre before rising again can test the willpower, but the last eight kilometres are cycling nirvana. Snow-capped peaks, the lake, green meadows in summer and a perfect road surface. Enjoy.
a video and review of the ride is at my web-site.

Col de la Croix de Fer (English: Pass of the Iron Cross) (el. 2067 m.) is a high mountain pass in the French Alps linking Le Bourg-d'Oisans and Saint-Jean-de-Maurienne. there are 2 approaches : from the northeast from St-Jean-de-Maurienne and form the north from La Chambre via Col du Glandon. This is the hardest one.
