Well-know col, but not as difficult as it looks by reputation. The east-side of the Aspin is the more difficult side, mainly because the gradient is bigger and it contains a steep km of 8,5%.address

Opgepast voor koeien en geiten op de Aspin. Ze zijn zeer tam, dus doen niets maar gaan dan ook niet uit de weg wanneer je er volle vaart naartoe rijdt!

De Col d’Aspin verbindt de valleien van de Adour en de Neste d’Aure. Via de Col d’Aspin bereik je heel eenvoudig de voet van de Tourmalet (in Sainte-Marie-de-Campan). Omwille van deze reden wordt hij ook vaak opgenomen in het programma van de Tour de France. Het is een vrij toegankelijke col. De eerste 2 km zijn een makkie, daarna wordt de beklimming iets lastiger, maar de stijgingspercentages blijven heel redelijk tot in Aspin-Aure. Tijdens de beklimming passeer je 5 haarspeldbochten, waardoor de windrichting ook continu wijzigt. Na de brede bocht ter hoogte van Aspin-Aure wordt de beklimming iets steiler. De beklimming garandeert je heel mooie vergezichten, wat de beklimming dubbel zo aangenaam maakt. Eens je de top nadert, pas je best op voor loslopende koeien en andere dieren, die niet onder de indruk zijn van de fietsers.

The Col d'Aspin is one of the most famous climbs in the Tour de France : it’s scheduled for the 72nd time in the 2016 edition of the race. However, it was never a stage finish, but mostly it’s climbed in combination with the Col du Tourmalet and the Col de Peyresourde.
The largest part of the climb lies in forest, which makes the views pleasant rather than spectacular. Once you’re approaching the summit, you’ll get a larger view and will be able to see the high peaks which are the border between France and Spain. The Col d'Aspin is a legendary climb and really enjoyable to ride, but with less impressive scenery.
The Col d'Aspin is usually open throughout the year, excepted when there’s heavy snowfall.

Le Col d'Aspin est une des ascensions les plus populaires du Tour de France : il est au programme pour la 72ième fois lors de l'édition 2016 ! Cependant, il ne s'est jamais trouvé à l'arrivée d'une étape, mais en général, on le fait en combinaison avec le Col du Tourmalet et le Col de Peyresourde.
La plus grande partie de l'ascension se trouve dans les forêts, ce qui en fait une ascension plutôt agréable que spectaculaire. Une fois que vous approcherez le sommet, vous aurez une belle vue sur les sommets àl'hauteur de la frontière entre la France et l'Espagne. Le Col d'Aspin est un col légendaire, très agréable à faire, mais moins spectaculaire. Il rest ouvert le long de l'année, sauf s'il y a beaucoup de neige.
