Als je door de Maurienne-vallei rijdt vallen de haarspeldbochten naar het dorpje Montvernier onmiddellijk op. Het betreft 18 bochten tussen 1928 en 1934 uit de berg gehakt zijn. De Lacets de Montvernier behoort zeker tot één van de spectaculaire beklimmingen in de Savoie-regio. De stijgingspercentages vallen echter wel mee.
Vanuit Pontamafrey rijd je meteen de haarspeldbochten van de 'Les Lacets de Montvernier' in. 18 bochten (en 400m hoger) kom je aan in het dorpje Montvernier. Rijd je verder richting Montpascal, door een mooi bos, dan beland je na enkele km op een plateau met een fantastisch uitzicht!
Sinds 2012 is de afdaling richting Montaimont geasfalteerd en zo kun je in een 'boucle' terugrijden. Deze beklimming kan ook gecombineerd worden met de Madeleine.

If you're cycling through the Maurienne-valley, the hairpin bends towards the village of Montvernier will capture your attention immediately. The road was built between 1928 and 1934. The Lacets de Montvernier is certainly one of the more spectacular climbs in the Savoie region. However, the climb itself is not that steep.
From Pontamafrey, the hairpin bends of the 'Les Lacets de Montvernier' start immediately. 18 turns later (400 altimeters) you'll arrive in the village of Montvernier, where you can drive further towards Montpascal, through a beautiful forest. Then you end up after a few km on a plateau with a fantastic view!
Since 2012 the route downhill towards Montaimont is asphalted, and so it's possible to drive back in a 'boucle'. This climb can be combined with the Madeleine.

Lorsque vous passez par la vallée de la Maurienne, les lacets vers le village de Montvernier saisissent immédiatement votre attention. Il s'agit en effet de 18 virages, qui ont été creusés dans la montagne entre 1928 et 1934. Les Lacets de Montvernier sont absolument une des ascensions les plus spectaculaires de la Savoie. Le dénivellé est plutôt modéré.
Depuis Pontamafrey vous entrez immédiatement les virages des 'Lacets de Montvernier'. Il s'agit de 18 virages en épingle à cheveux qui mènent vers le village de Montvernier (400m plus haut). Si vous continuez plus loin vers Montpascal, vous traverserez une belle forêt, pour arriver finalemet après quelques km sur un plateau qui garantit une vue splendide!
Depuis 2012, la descente vers Montaimont est asphaltée, ce qui vous permet de rentrer en 'boucle'. Ce col peut être combiné avec le Col de la Madeleine.

Rode up in 2004, a great experience. I did the round trip via the Col de Chaussay and Montaimont. At that time the road after Chaussay was an extremely rough Forestry Road that was tricky to ride on normal road tyres. Worth it 'tho.
