From Casma on the coast of Peru one can climb via a mountain pass of 4500m altitude to the town of Huaraz. The total strecht is about 130km, but the climb is about 100km. Then it is a 30km descent to Huaraz About the first 36km upwards are paved. In 2004 the pavement looked brand new. After that it is all unpaved There are no big villages to get foods or drinks. Only in 1 village is there a market. You will be climbing mostly along a river with water of uncertain quality.address
