12/11 to 12/23/2013 : COYHAIQUE (CHILE ) – EL BOLSON (ARGENTINA) [700km]

December 23, 2013 , 15h . El Bolson , Argentina. The thermometer reads 38 ° … it’s Christmas Eve ! It is not yet time for retrospective for the year 2013 so we take a few days off to celebrate as we should.

Coyhaique – Puyuhuapi ( 240km – 3 days)
Mid-December 2013. The presidential election just ended in Chile and Michelle Bachelet (PS) won again ! On this historic Sunday we continue our journey through the Carretera Austral, before turning back to the Argentinian side in Futaleufu . it is in El Bolson, former hippie village , that we will spend Christmas !

Yes, ladies and gentlemen, more than ever, our spirits are high . The misadventures of Jul in Cochrane are behind us now and made us hungry for the road. What an incredible opportunity we have to travel at our own pace . Relying on simple joys. The meal , a meeting , a swim . On the bike we ride at a good pace and lengthen our days at 80 – 90km on average. The conditions are ideal. It is very beautiful, the roads are lined on both sides by Lupinos (flowers ) in a cocktail of purple , white and pink colors. A pearl. Some forests give us the necessary shade for our breaks. We harvest our first cherries for evening aperitifs and find wild mint in astronomical amount . Mint tea (plus enough to make a Christmas workshop of mojitos ;) … good times!

In those early days , we cross the National Park Queulat with two walks in the program ( in fact, they were not really planned … ) . The first through the path of “Bosque Encantado” actually became our camping spot for the night. The second took us the next morning Ventisquero Colgante , which has the distinction of being a hanging glacier fed by a waterfall 300 meters high , with a lake color sky blue as only Patagonia holds the secret.
