To infinity, and Beyompton!

Surely one of my worst puns ever.

I took this picture last Sunday in lovely Limburg, after a test ride on my girlfriend's Brompton. Me, on a folding bike, in full kit: quite the sight — if you are into ridiculous sights.

The goal of the test ride was to see how the Brompton handles, especially when climbing. Because there is not much to climb in Ghent, I took it to the undulating countryside of Limburg and Liege.

Why the need to climb at all? Well, we are planning a bicycle tour in the hilly North of Thailand in December. After looking at http://pathlesspedaled.com/, we thought travelling on Bromptons would be a good way to avoid the hassle –and cost– of getting our touring bicycles on a plane, and safely off again.

My conclusion: yes, the Brompton is a decent little machine, quite apt for general cycling. I know what my next purchase will be. 😊

Oh, and if you're interested, I also uploaded my track for the test ride. Pretty fun one on a road bike, too, with the Hallembaye (a 13% grade) as the cherry on top. See http://catenacycling.com/en/workouts/detail/17094 for the workout details.

[UPDATE 2012/11/02: I had forgotten to add the pictures when I first posted this. Sorry!]

Not bad, an average of more than 25 km/h on a Brompton (for almost 2 hours) 😊
Looking forward to hear all about your "Brompton experience" in Thailand !
