Cycling in Italy

In recent years, Italy has become a popular destination for a bike trip or a cycling challenge.
The country used to be known amongst cycling passionates for its climbs in the Giro d'Italia - think of the Passo dello Stelvio or Mortirolo - and Milan-San Remo , with the Poggio as most famous climb.

Now you have more and more popular cycling holidays in popular touristic regions like Tuscany and Umbria, where you can bike endlessly through the beautiful landscapes.

Are you looking for a bigger challenge, no problem, then you can just opt for a steeper trail. Indeed, the Apennines provide a wide range of climbs. This mountain range extends over almost the entire peninsula: they run from Liguria in the north to Calabria in southern Italy.

If you go more to the north, the regions of Lombardy , Valle d'Aosta, Trentino-Alto Adige and South Tyrol are definitely the places to be for climbers and mountain bikers : that's indeed the location of the famous mountains such as the Cervinia , the Passo Giau , the Pampeago-Reiter Joch , the Mortirolo and the Stelvio.

The pleasant climate most of the year, just not too hot, just not too dry, certainly contributes to the growing popularity of Italy as a cycling destination. And of course, the pleasant behaviour of the Italians towards foreign guests makes cycling in Italy extra fun.
