Tour Down Under

The Santos Tour Down Under takes place every year during the second half of January in the Adelaide region.

The race was has its origin in 1999 and is since 2005 included in the continental circuit of the UCI. Since 2008, the Tour Down Under is included in the UCI Pro Tour and since 2011, the race has become part of the UCI World Tour.

Since the comeback of Lance Armstrong in the Tour Down Under in 2009, after a break of two years, the stage race became enormously popular and got al lot of media attention. Mainly Australian cyclists try to get in the spotlight while they are participating in this race. Most teams use the Tour Down Under to prepare their athletes for the start of the European cycling season late January.

Santos Tour Down Under 2016

The 2016 edition of the Santos Tour Down Under takes place between January 17 and 24. On Saturday, January 16, there's the team presentation.
According to Leon Bignell, the Australian Minister of Tourism, the programm includes the comeback of some old favourites, such as the iconical Norton Summit road.

The different stages of the Santos Tour Down Under 2016 :

Down Under Classic (Adelaide) – 51 km – Sunday, 17 January

Stage 1 – Prospect -> Lyndoch – 130.8 km – Tuesday, 19 January

Stage 2 – Unley -> Stirling – 132 km – Wednesday, 20 January

Stage 3 – Glenelg -> Campbelltown – 139 km – Thursday, 21January

Bupa Stage 4 – Norwood -> Victor Harbor – 138 km – Friday, 22 January

Bike Exchange Stage 5 – McLaren Vale -> Willunga Hill – 151.5 km – Saturday, 23 January

Be Safe Be Seen MAC Stage 6 – Adelaide – 90 km – Sunday, 24 January
