Omloop Het Nieuwsblad (Ghent-Ghent) 2014
The 69th edition of the Omloop Het Nieuwsblad (Ghent-Ghent) took place on Saturday, March 1st.
This year, the Kapelmuur figures again in the program : in 2013 it was skipped from the program due to roadworks, but also in 2011 and 2012 the legendary Kapelmuur didn't figure in the program. Now, the cyclists will have to climb it at km 84.
The typical character of the race and its final, redesigned by ex-cyclist Peter Van petegem in 2011, remains the same. The last 40 km, including 3 passages across the Haaghoek, remain the same. Due to roadworks however, the Berendries, Ten Bosse and the Eikemolen are skipped from the program and replaced by the Kasteeldreef.
The Wolvenberg is again on the program at 51,3 km from the end, after it had been removed due to roadworks. The climb is immediately followed by 3 cobblestone strips, which didn't figure in last year's edition : Ruiterstraat, Karel Martelstraat and Holleweg.
From there on, the cyclists are heading for the Sint-Pietersplein, where Luca Paolini became the winner in 2013, just before Stijn Vandenbergh.
The Omloop 2014 counts 10 climbs, 2 less than last year's edition. There are 11 cobllestone strips.
