Cyclists should be prepared for any type of weather enroute and as much as a 30 degree temperature change. The climb starts in the historic north shore town of Paia and winds its way upcountry through sugar cane and pineapple fields past the Paniolo town of Makawao and into the scenic pasture lands of Olinda. Ride along rolling fields and through Eucalyptus groves enroute to pine forests at the 6,500 tree line. Beyond the tree line is another 11 quad burning miles as the road traverses up the side of the dormant volcano Haleakala.address
