Description
In 1997, Tour winner Marco Pantani up the Col de Joux Plane in 33 minutes! Three years later, the Joux Plane managed to make a victim out of Lance Armstrong.
Not that surprising, because the southside of the climb, from Samoëns, is one of the steepest climbs of the Alps (most of the climb is close to 10%). But it is also one of the most beautiful!

Do not under-estimate this wonderful climb. Wiggins has it in his Top 5 most hated climbs, Armstrong famously died on it during the Tour. There are longer climbs in the Alps, there are steeper climbs in the Pyrenees, but it's the irregularity of this beauty that makes it a challenge. You can never get into a comfortable rhythm on it and it has some 14-15% stuff thrown in too. Fantastic views and a great cafe at the top to reward you when you get there. Anything sub-1 hr is an excellent ride. Enjoy ! (Chris at Chalet365)
