Starting in Porlock the scenic route twists through idyllic woodland, offering tantalising glimpses through the trees to Porlock Bay. As the road climbs, never at more than 1 in 14, it passes the toll house as the trees thin, the panoramic splendour of the Somerset coast is revealed, with vistas across the Bristol Channel towards Swansea and the Gower Peninsiula. The road clings to the hillside through open moorland dotted with heather, gorse and whortleberry bushes, joining the A39 by the AA Box at Pitt Combe Head.
